17c 네덜란드로 부터 유행한 정물화(still life)는 테이블 위로 화려하게 만개한 꽃, 탐스러운 과일과 재료, 진귀한 소품들을 정교하게 배열하며 그려진 예술 양식으로, 단순히 장식미 만을 추구하지 않았습니다. 정물화 속 시드는 꽃과 사물들은 결국 소멸할 운명을 담아내기에 인생의 덧없음과 유한함을 상징하며, 우리에게 삶의 무상함과 아름다움의 덧없음을 묵상하게 합니다. 결국 이들은 이러한 찰나의 아름다움을 통해 인간 존재의 유한성에 대한 철학적 메시지를 전하는 기록입니다.

Still life painting, which gained popularity in 17th-century Netherlands, is an art form that intricately arranges vibrant flowers in full bloom, luscious fruits and ingredients, and rare objects on a table. These paintings were not created merely for decorative beauty. The withering flowers and objects depicted in still life symbolize the inevitability of decay and the transience of life, inviting us to reflect on the impermanence of existence and the fleeting nature of beauty. Through this ephemeral elegance, still life paintings convey a philosophical message about the finiteness of human existence.
This exhibition reinterprets the aesthetics of traditional still life through the artist's perspective. The still life, previously confined to two-dimensional surfaces, is reborn in three-dimensional forms using materials like silk flowers, felt, and resin. These unwithering objects symbolize moments frozen in time, blurring the boundaries between finiteness and permanence. Resembling life yet devoid of it, they stand as unique entities, bridging the past and the present, decay and continuity, while exploring new possibilities for still life art.
